Financial Business Management Systems

Challenge

The contractor-provided training for the Financial Business Management System at the National Park Service (NPS) had not kept pace with changes to the system and was not 508 compliant as required by law. Business Administration and Management (BAM) sought internal help to substantially update the training.

My Role

As Senior Instructional Design with the Mather Training Team, I was asked to support redevelopment of the FBMS e-learning to be 508- and SCORM-compliant with a higher degree of interactivity and assessment for the learner.

Action(s)

I worked with the Training Specialist and Training Manager of BAM to design an accessible template according to NPS brand guidelines in Articulate RISE then shared the Master for others working on the project. I converted text-heavy content to interactive blocks in RISE, updated graphics and ensured accessibility. Asked to lead on other projects, I developed a handoff document and shared tips/tricks with the Training Specialist to continue development and review of modules.

Result(s)

The project included at least 12 modules that were rolled out to improve training for the most widely used of NPS financial systems, which were undergoing continuous updates. It was welcomed by the audience of FBMS users who had struggled to work in the new system without proper training. Updated training removed one barrier to adopting the new system processes.
