Challenge
A new NPS Visitor and Resource Protection Training Manager was onboarding just as the Associate Director requested a report on prior fiscal year training to support his decision-making as budgets were reduced again. This was a great opportunity for our small training team to report data on reach and impact, but time was short and our small remote team of 3 was overbooked already, with no time for synchronous collaboration.
My Role
As the Senior Instructional Designer for the VRP team, I stepped up to design an engaging online presentation to tell the story of the work the VRP training team had done, using a format that we could all work through asychronously.
Action(s)
I designed a presentation in Articulate RISE, supported by simple data visualizations and statistics, that conveyed the scope of progress made and set the stage for discussions we wanted to have around training priorities and budgets. I wrote messaging, considered strategic needs, and posed questions to spark needed discussions. Each team member could review and comment via Review and handoff for completion so we could meet the deadline.
Result(s)
The RISE-based report posed strategic considerations for fiscal year 2025 resourcing that set the stage for discussions the training manager wanted to have (once she got up to speed); the Associate Director was thrilled with the report as he could share and reference it for strategic planning.
